The Friendly Waxeye

Updated: Sep 14, 2021

My little friend the Waxeye (aka Silvereye or White-eye) is believed to be a self-introduced bird to New Zealand but it is protected as a native species. Its Māori name, tauhou, means "stranger" or more literally, "new arrival".

The bird looks great on a bold solid coloured backdrop. I played around with different background colours and decided on 4 variations.

Do you want to see it on other colours? Let me know in the comments below.

I love seeing the way the patterns lend themselves to a variety of products from apparel to home accessories, it makes me so happy.

The painting is available as art prints and custom printed textiles.
